How Does Laser Dentistry Work?
Since the early 1990s, lasers have been hard at work in dental offices making treatment procedures more comfortable and efficient for patients. Dr. Gripentrog and Dr. Rogers are proud to offer laser dentistry in our Glenview, IL dental office, and here are some of the procedures we use the laser for and how it works.
Do you see a lot of your gum tissue when you smile? Perhaps you feel like you have a "gummy smile"? Did you know that this can be eliminated with gum contouring and the laser can help? Instead of having to cut your tissue, the laser uses concentrated light and heat to essentially vaporize the excess gum tissue covering your beautiful smile. The laser will eliminate the tissue, while also sterilizing the area and creating a seal that will accelerate your healing time.
The laser can also make quick work of removing the frenum, which is that attachment between the upper lips and the gums, or below the tongue that can sometimes cause difficulties with eating and talking for some patients. This procedure is quick and painless with the laser, and again because there's no cutting, your healing time is much quicker.
The heat from the laser can also be used to treat painful canker sores, drastically reducing their healing time. Patients who suffer from frequent canker sores can tell you how painful it is, and how long it takes for this condition to heal. When you first start to notice a canker sore, contact your team at Gallery Park Dental right away to be treated with the laser. Treating your sore in its earliest stages delivers the fastest results and quickest healing times.
