Teeth Whitening in Glenview IL

The Value of a Beautiful Smile

According to a recent survey conducted by Match.com, teeth is the number one category in which both men and women judge the opposite sex. Your smile creates both an immediate and lasting impression with everyone you meet.  A brighter smile gives the impression of youth, vitality, warmth and happiness.  A brighter, whiter smile is a healthy and more attractive smile.

Why do teeth become discolored?

Due to morphological changes, teeth will naturally darken as we age. That is part of the reason that whiter teeth are associated with youth and vitality. Internal darkening of the teeth is caused by changes in the enamel and dentin layers of the teeth. This internal darkening is often caused by genetics, tooth decay, restorations, trauma, root canal issues or exposure to certain antibiotics as a child.

External tooth discoloration is caused by environmental factors, mainly foods, drinks, and tobacco. The main causes of external tooth yellowing are smoking, foods with tannins, coffee, tea, carrots, oranges, and other foods.

Types of Teeth Whitening

There are many ways to whiten your teeth, but the two most common are dentist-supervised teeth whitening and the “do-it-yourself” approach with over the counter products.

Over the Counter Tooth Whitening Systems

Commercially available tooth whitening systems have become popular, mainly because they’re relatively inexpensive. There are a few over-the-counter tooth-whitening methods that can be purchased without your dentist’s supervision. They include whitening strips, paint-on tooth gel, mouth trays with gel, and whitening toothpaste. While over-the-counter tooth whitening products are available, dentist-supervised tooth whitening remains the safest, most effective method for brightening your smile.

Dentist-Supervised Whitening

The effectiveness of whitening systems depends mainly on two factors:  the percentage of whitening agent used and the amount of time that the whitening agent is kept on the teeth.  For that reason, dentist-supervised whitening systems get the best results.

At Gallery Park Dental in Glenview, IL we offer two different options for whitening.  The first is professional strength whitening gel with custom mouth trays and the second is in-office whitening services.  Please do not hesitate to discuss these options with our knowledgeable staff and doctors.

Professionally Made Mouth Trays

Dr. Rogers and Dr. Gripentrog have found the safest and most effective way to whiten teeth is done through professionally made bleaching trays with a prescription strength whitening gel.  Trays can be quickly and conveniently fabricated for patients.  At your first appointment, impressions are taken of both upper and lower teeth and a whitening tray is fabricated that is custom fit to your teeth.  After the trays are fabricated, the fit to your teeth will be verified and detailed instructions on how to use the whitening gel will be given.

Whiten for Life Program

Gallery Park Dental is proud to offer our patients “Whiten for Life”.
